ICHC IN TURKEY

ICHC has recently partnered with the government of Turkey to establish a world-class addiction treatment center in Gaziantep, Turkey, focusing on the care of adolescents using and abusing alcohol and drugs. The goals of the treatment center are to:

  1. Reduce the prevalence and incidence of drug and alcohol abuse among the adolescents and adults of Turkey;
  2. Educate, rehabilitate and treat those individuals abusing substances, returning them to their communities with a healthy lifestyle; and,
  3. Conduct public education about the use and abuse of substances, seeking to prevent and reduce future problems with substance abuse in Turkey.

A team of international experts has been compiled, under the leadership of Dr. David J. Powell, to provide technical assistance, training and consultation to personnel in Turkey who will be providing services at the addiction treatment center. The treatment center is tentatively scheduled to officially open January 1, 2009.

Proposed Training Courses

The following training courses will be based on the curriculum of the International Center for Addiction Studies (ICAS), currently utilized in Asia and Europe. These courses are provided at the undergraduate and graduate levels and will be offered by the visiting faculty. Additional reading and resource materials will be provided between visits and online courses will also be available through www.dlcas.com. In 2009, additional courses will be provided on prevention strategies, legal and ethical issues, clinical supervision, skills in working with adolescent boys, and other topics. This schedule is dependent upon the availability of personnel to attend in Turkey.
